RBW EV Cars specialise in building bespoke handcrafted electric vehicles modelled on iconic British heritage cars, each focusing on the customer’s unique personal specification and requirement.
Founded by electronics businessman Peter Swain in 2017, RBW EV Cars’ classic EV car business has acquired its technical know-how from big names such as Zytek and Continental and has established itself at the forefront of producers of brand new classic and vintage vehicles featuring modern electric engineering.
Their debut vehicle, the RBW EV Roadster was unveiled in 2020 and showcased its unique appeal; a vehicle inspired by the iconic MG of the 1960s and 70s equipped with the latest EV technologies. It quickly gained attention on social media and was reviewed by James May. Its first client delivery in January 2022 sealed its popularity and by June 2023 production was scaled-up, eventually leading to their showroom launch in St Johns Wood, London, followed by their state-of-the-art factory in Lichfield in October 2023. Its subsequent model, The RBW EV GT was launched in December 2023, and featured a patented power drivetrain system, lithium-ion battery technology, encased in a brand-new heritage bodyshell from British Motor Heritage.
Caerbont Automotive Instruments were approached by RBW EV Cars to produce a set of gauges for their RBW EV Roadster and RBW EV GT. Our Design team took on the customer’s specification who were keen to produce a set of gauges inspired by the MGB Roadster of the 1960s, retaining their authentic and heritage look, whilst introducing modern and innovative EV technologies. The instruments were programmed with our own bespoke software to enable a seamless communication with the vehicle’s own electronic communication bus system. The results were CAN driven cutting edge EV instruments that retain a classic and stylish elegance. The instruments designed include:
All instruments designed feature black dials, white print, chrome polished bezels. The RBW and Smiths logos are printed on each gauge.
This project demonstrates CAI’s commitment to greener and innovative technologies. Our ability to apply our expertise and develop instruments based on our customers unique requirements has secured our place in bespoke gauge design.
We continue to supply gauges to RBW EV Cars and look forward to working with this customer on future collaborations.
